At the LapuLapu City Maranga Learning and Recreation Park to start the process. No pictures taken
Note:
This is not drawn to scale. What is presented here is the concept of developing
a PARK AND RECREATION CENTER in a LEARNING ENVIRONMENT is shown in the
following sketches. I hope a skilled and talented Maranga family member will
pick this up and draw in CAD as it is important for the family member to view this as if it already
exists. We need to be have an ancestral home where our next generations can consider their own
This
lot was acquired by Papalo as attorneys fee from a court case which run for 25
years. This is one-third of the total land area of 1 hectare.
As
the owner did not have money to spend for the court case, hearings and fees,
Papalo shouldered all costs until the case was won and a land title for the 1/3
share of the property of the Apa family was issued in the name of MANUEL GALO.
MARANGA, SR AND VICENTA BIORE MARANGA
Both
of them are born from a poor family from Asturias, Cebu and Cantuhaon, Leyte and struggling to keep ends
meet and educate the children. They both have a vision, that their children and
grandchildren and great great grandchildren will have an ancestral home and
consolidated with a common dream of helping each other.
Mamala
is a prayerful woman who would regularly pray for her children and grandchildren
while Papalo with his fighting ways would want that the Family be gathered
strong in the idea that a large family can always be respected by the
community. This may have come out from them based on the desire that their
children will not suffer the fate that they have undergone.
Papalo
was struggling to get his education by being a house help at an age where he
should be on school. Due to the number
of siblings, it was difficult to go to school. He has to fetch water and do
household chores. Others are coconut
wine “tuba” gatherers and fish folks to ensure there is food to eat.
Papalo run away from home and landed in many odd jobs, such as a “cargador” in carbon market, painter in the cemetery during all saints and all souls day. He also studied typing and gregg shorthand writing (try viewing in you tube to appreciate the effort to learn the skill) and typing. These two skills provided him with work with the Fulvio Pelaez a relative of the former vice-president of the Philippines. Mr. Paul Pelaez, a cousin of the Vice President Pelaez became his very close friend. Papalo was so fast with typing, that whatever you say he can type as fast as you say it. This earned him the reputation that he is a fast and good worker. During their time in the 1920’s typewriters were used and onion skin paper was used. And the court documents have to be written in 5 copies, so they have use very thin paper-the onion skin.
When
they met, Papalo was kind of a “sira ulo”
as he always types on the table without typewriter. This practice is
similar to having a chess game without a chess board, everything or movement of pieces was recorded in memory.
Papalo has that mental prowess. He worked in the First National City Bank of
New York, that was located near Sto Nino Church.
Instead
of riding in a tartanella (horse drawn carriage) from Calamba, near Taboan
Market, he walks to his work as they were very poor. They have to save every
centavo for food, rent and clothing. In his study of law, every time he sees a
tartanella plate number, he recites the criminal law code relating to the
number. Also to the other law subjects. That is why, to the friends of Papalo,
his “chico” Atty Pabling Garcia, Mr. Biany Dequito and Apolonio Maranga Sr. a
relative from Mactan Island, believe that, he was a brilliant lawyer.
Being
from a poor family, he had clients who could not pay his services but still he
helped them. One very important case which happened in Samal Island have made
his name recognized by the Maranga Clan. Even until this day, members
of the Maranga Clan in Davao, recalls
the way he handled the case and won.
Mamala was born in Cantuahaon Leyte. A poor
farming family but Lolo Ubaldo Biore and Lola Jorgia Tero would want Vicenta
“Intang” to finish school. Mamala stayed in the house of a well-off family in Cebu City who provided her with opportunity
to study in the University of the Visayas. Due to lack of money she always ask
favor from Mrs. Josefina Gullas, who provided her with temporary pass, many
times over, for her to take exams. She became a teacher, then became a Doctor
of Education and retired as a DepEd Supervisor.
I
wish, that with the technology now, the grandchildren will work on a family
tree of both of them. This is a story of struggle to provide better opportunity
for their children, grand children and great grand children.
I
am focusing on their struggles, with the hope that the Members of the Family
will honor their struggles, care and hope to provide us with education, home
and better opportunities.
This
concept, I believe, will be blessed by them. We would always remember them. Our
land and abode in Tisa, will eventually be erased with the developments
on-going in the Cebu City and nearby cities. There are members of the family
that are poor in mind and heart and they could not attain the levels of
achievement as others in the Maranga family has. They will have nothing and go
back to square one- a condition of homelessness and a dirt to society. This is
a scenario that Papalo and Mamala would want to prevent.
God’s
commandment “Honor thy father and
mother..” It is important to remember this out of Love and Care, as they have
prepared for us and our future.
This
Recreation and Health and Wellness Park in a Learning Environment is
conceptualized to ensure that the land that they have acquired will not be sold
but utilized for the children and grandchildren.
As
there are concepts and capabilities to build a three or four- storey building,
we conceptualize that each floor will not have walls and a distance of at least
15 feet from floor to ceiling. The area of the floors can now be divided and
businesses can be set-up. We can utilize the fifth floor as the living quarters.
The
first and second floors can be for entertainment such as a billiard table area,
a fish spa or plain massage area. Then
products such as food store, and motorcycle parts can be sold. Along the
boundaries a low level, ½ meter high zip line can be installed for easy access
to various businesses.
There
shall be a fishing area in a small pond, vertical garden and trellis for fresh
vegetables and fruits.
Fence
shall be installed. As of the moment, we request for 3-sacks of cement each or
a total of 15 sacks and used clothing to bind a roll of news paper with cloth
in cement. If we can have a double or triple layer of the cloth in cement wound
in the rolled news paper, we can have a strong material and least costly than
using metal wires.
The
fish pond will only be 3 ft x 5 ft and 3 ft deep. This can accommodate 50 to 7O
fingerlings and can be grown organically for 5 months. There is no need to
change the water due to the concoctions as practiced in organic agriculture and
fed only once or twice a week. As there are at least 10 fish ponds, visitors
can fish on the pond and pay for the fish that they capture.
A
cooking area will be prepared using induction cooker for low electrical cost
and consumption. Or better still install a solar power supply.
There
will be a fish foot spa near the eating table made of wood and cloth- in-
cement.
Low
level swings and target shooting area using air rifles will be set-up fully enclosed to prevent accidental
shooting.
There
shall be aviary for different birds. This shall
be near the learning area in meditation and tetada exercise. There shall
also be sessions in Eskrima and vehicle maintenance for executives. Home
cooking in vegetarian methods shall be conducted. These short term programs
can be conducted once a month.
A
financial management team shall be organized and composed of members of Maranga
family. The initial fund can be sourced out from friends and willing to invest
in the project.
This
will lead to the creation of a corporation for local management of the Park and eventually for international
partnership. Using computer and electronic systems, all members can be updated
on how the project is developing. The computer experts of the Family are
requested and eventually manage the security of the area, and the business
enterprise.
It
is envisioned that all must be provided with a share of the income. Those that
have assignment in the Park shall receive compensation for work done.
This
will be a way of honoring Papalo and Mamala. As initial way of protecting the
Family , members of the interfaith church missionary, such as Healers of
Siqujor, Catholic faith defenders, CWL,
and Monks of Hare Krsna and other friends with whom Mamala and Papalo
share the idea that spiritual preparations on a series of activity over a five-month
period will encourage good thoughts, best effort and spiritual protection from harm for all those
whose mind and heart continue to honor Papalo and Mamala.
I
am posting this in the blogspot and facebook as a way of attracting friends and
relatives into the project.
May
the spirit of Goodness continue to dwell
upon us!
